How often do you truly focus on relaxation? And, how do you like to relax? I have honestly never made relaxation a priority or focus in my life until recently. I’ve always lived a fast paced, busy life and I am extremely Type-A and don’t pencil in a lot of downtime for myself. It all started when I had a fitness related injury last year, and I began focusing on recovery for my body. I started spending just as much money and time on sports therapy rehab, massages and rest as I was on gym time, membership and working out.
Flash forward to the pandemic and my divorce in 2020, and I realized how essential rest and relaxation are. As much as I do love a beautiful spa day ( and I definitely have done my fair share of those! ), I have learned that relaxing doesn’t have to be time consuming or very costly. Implementing small rituals into your daily and weekly routine can work wonders on your mind, body and soul!
Here are some of my favorite things that I have implemented into my routine to help me remain calm, less anxious, peaceful, happy and rested.
Diffuser + Oils
I’ve never used any type of essential oils until my boyfriend bought me this diffuser and essential oil set for Christmas. He has a similar one at his house, so he introduced me to the world of oils and now I am hooked! This diffuser is so easy to use, and it brings a consistent scent and aromatherapy around your room for hours! It’s quiet, and it also has pretty lights that change color. It makes your room or space a complete relaxing sanctuary! There are so many different uses for oils, but I have personally been using them in the diffuser. The oils are all natural and you can mix the different scents based on your needs. The 8 different oils I use all have different effects: wellness, purify, motivate, soothe, spa ambiance, focus, energize and calm.
If you’re anything like me, and you experience seasonal depression when the sun goes MIA during the Winter months, then this next relaxation product is for you! I have always been a sunshine girl. As long as I have sunshine, I am happy! This lamp will give you your daily boost of sunshine. It is UV-free and contains no radiation or light pollution. It helps boost your mood and gives you an overall feeling of peace and happiness. It fights the winter blues and jet lag. I keep it in my bathroom and use it every day when I am getting ready!
After coming home to Indiana following Christmas in the Caribbean, I really put this to good use.

In addition to using my oils and sunlight machine, I have been practicing mediation. I highly recommend “The Headspace Guide to Mediation” on Netflix. The episodes are short and take you through simple mediation practices.

My last piece of advice for relaxation is taking a short walk. It can do wonders!
