Spring Break 2018 is in the books! We drove down to the Blue Ridge Mountains and stayed at Grandma and T’s cabin. It was absolutely beautiful and a very different type of vacation! The girls had a wonderful, fun time and the weather was perfect! 60s and 70s! Back in Indiana it was freezing and snowing, and we came home to 35 degree temps 🙁 This year Spring Break was combined with Easter, which was our first Easter holiday being on vacation!
We left at 8:30 AM and then made to the cabin at 6:00 pm. We stopped for lunch in Lexington!
Blakesley only napped for 15 minutes on the way down and 25 minutes on the way back home. My kids have never been great sleepers in the car.
On Easter morning we went into the town of Blue Ridge to ride their Scenic Railway and participate in the Easter Egg Express!
My oldest and dear friend Megan and her family reside in Georgia. They met us for the train ride and we spent the whole day together. It was so much fun and it was also the first time due to many crazy circumstances that I was finally able to meet her husband, Matt! It was absolutely wonderful. Their 3 boys got along so well with our 3 girls.
B’s 1st egg hunt! It was so cute!
All 3 girls & boys were in different age divisions for the hunt, so it was a good thing we had 4 adults total to watch over the 6 kids!
Same exact picture from December, except this time on a bunny’s lap. B hated the bunny and she also hated all the live animals.
Give this girl some dandelions and she is one happy baby. Her little nose also turned bright yellow from smelling them.
Best friends for 31 years!
B had the best view in the house for all the hiking!
Campfires were a must!
The Easter Bunny found us in Georgia! ( Sonoma also told him the day before when she met him that we would not be in Indiana! )
On Easter morning we drove to the Appalachian Trail and hiked to the top of Amicalola Falls – the tallest waterfall East of the Mississippi River. We hiked it over 8 years ago when I was pregnant with Sonoma. This time, we did it with a family of 5 and it was quite an accomplishment!
Cora was not into hiking.
WE DID IT!
Recovering!
The girls were so into climbing this tree.
On Monday, Uncle D and cousins Adair and Flynn came to visit for the day and the kids all had so much fun playing together!
The boys! |
The girls!
The Easter Bunny brought us girls matching pjs!
Mercier Orchards which is right by the cabin is one of the best in the country! We loved lunch and all of the yummy tastings we did there!
We drove to the Cherokee National Forest and hiked along the Ocoee River, where one of the events in the 1996 Olympics was held.
We passed so many warnings for bears and copperhead snakes and Sonoma, Cora and I were all freaked out!
While we enjoyed all of the restaurants we went to in Blue Ridge, Black Sheep the last night was our favorite! It is such a cool house with some incredible history.
Spring Break 2018 was a success! We can’t wait to go back another time, and maybe another season. Now, it is back to reality and trying to play catch up in life!
