I’ve had a recent love for planning good old fashioned, inexpensive dates and decided to share some of the ideas that you may want to try for yourself.
Last week, I shared a daytime/early evening date idea for a picnic at the park. This week, it’s all about a night time date at The Drive-in Movie theatre. The Drive-in to me is the perfect old fashioned date night. It brings back a nostalgic feeling. I hadn’t been to the Drive-in theatre for years until D and I went last Summer one night. We had such a fun time, that we decided we would do it again this year, but bring the kids along. It was perfect because we had our own alone time during the movie, while the kids enjoyed their night together too! No reason to hire a babysitter!
If you decide to do this date night with children, you will want to bring two different cars or folding chairs! If you don’t want to leave your car on you could also bring a portable radio. We went to Tibbs Drive-in Theatre in Indianapolis and you pay per person for your admission. I drove my van and D drove his car. Tibbs has 2 movies for the price of one and they also have movies on 4 different screens! The first movie starts at 9:40 p.m, and then the second one is after that around 11:40 p.m. It is for sure a late night for young kids, so you will want to plan accordingly with naps and sleep. If you have an SUV or van, you can put the seats down and set up the back end with blankets and pillows. My 3 daughters had the entire back of the van to themselves, and then D and I sat in the front of his car, which we parked in front of the van. It was nice to each have our own space, but still be able to keep an eye on the girls!

I let the kids pick out some candy to bring with them in the car and then halfway through the first movie I bought everyone popcorn from the concession stand. My daughters thought the Drive-in was the coolest thing ever! They hadn’t even heard of one before I told them what it was. One thing I love about being a parent is seeing things through my kids eyes for the first time! They were so happy and excited!

Make sure to check out the movies and see what’s appropriate for kids if you decide to take them along. We saw Peter Rabbit 2 for our first movie, and the second movie was In the Heights. We left halfway through the second movie, since it was extremely late.

I think old fashioned dates are so romantic so that is why I love going to the Drive-in. I also love being able to find ways to squeeze in quality date time even if you have your children along with you. With or without kids, the Drive-in is something you for sure should add to your Summer bucket list!
