In my “Mealtime with Kids” post, I blogged about letting your kids help cook a meal, so they are more likely to eat and enjoy it with you. Most of our nights are chaotic and busy, but when the time allows, I try to let my kids help me out in the kitchen. I’ve always had a positive outcome from letting my kids help with preparing a meal.
Pizza night is always a hit in our home, and it’s so much cheaper than ordering in or going out! My 4 year old hasn’t ever cared for pizza, but last week when I let her make her own at home, she fell in love with pesto ( who would have ever guessed?!) and she ate all of her pizza!
My favorite store bought pizza crusts are Molinaro’s and they come in a 4 pack with sauces at Costco. They are so delicious and the perfect consistency – not too thin or thick. I like to do a lot of the prep work myself and cut up a variety of veggies, set out seasonings and cheeses, and then let my girls come in the kitchen one by one to build their half of the pizza. Everyone gets one half of a pizza! By letting my kids come in the kitchen by themselves, that seems to work out better and I can spend individual time with each girl.
Here are some of our favorite plant-based pizza toppings:
-Red Pizza Sauce
-Pesto Sauce ( my daughters absolutely love helping to make pesto! )
-Diced Peppers
-Diced Onions
-Chickpeas
-Banana Peppers
-Italian Seasoning
-Salt + Pepper
-Red Pepper Flakes
-Garlic
-Olive Oil
-Balsamic Vinegar
